A clawfoot tub is valued by many homeowners as a vintage bathroom feature. If you own a clawfoot tub, you may want to install new faucets. Instead of calling a professional plumber, you can do the job yourself, save some money and have the satisfaction of being able to install a new faucet in your clawfoot tub.
Step 1 - Shut off the Water
Turn off the water supply to your clawfoot tub.
Step 2 - Remove the Nuts
Not all faucets are the same, but the procedure to remove a faucet remains the same. Start by removing the nuts from the old faucet. Use the wrench to loosen the nuts.
Step 3 - Remove the Faucet
Once the nuts are removed, carefully remove the faucet from your tub.
Step 4 - Remove the Supply & Lock Nuts
Remove the supply and lock nuts from the faucet.
Step 5 - Unpack the New Faucet
Open the packaging for the new faucet and remove the faucet with its washers and lock nuts.
Step 6 - Remove the Nuts
Remove the nuts from the new faucet so that you can insert it into the holes on the tub.
Step 7 - Use Teflon Tape
Wind the Teflon tape around the threads of the new faucet in order to properly seal and waterproof the connections. Make sure every connection with threads is properly sealed with Teflon tape.
Step 8 - Insert the New Faucet into the Tub
Insert the new faucet into the holes on the tub. Make sure the faucet is placed squarely against the side of the tub.
Step 9 - Fix the Nuts
Use the wrench to screw the nuts onto the faucet. Ensure the faucet is firmly fixed to the tub. Use sufficient force to tighten the nuts so that the faucet is fixed tightly onto the tub. The faucet should be fixed tight so that it does not move at all.
Step 10 - Attach the Water Supply
Attach the water supply tubes to the faucet. Put the washers that came with the faucet in place, then tighten the supply nut. Make sure you have wound sufficient Teflon tape around the threaded area to properly seal the connections so that you do not end up with leaks.
Step 11 - Check all the Connections
Ensure that the connections are properly fixed before opening the water supply.
Step 12 - Check the New Faucet
Open the water supply and check the new faucet for leaks and proper operation.
