Installing Nursery Playground Flooring
If you have kids, especially young toddlers, installing indoor playground flooring in your nursery has many benefits. It is usually made of a rubbery material that is child safe. Playground flooring is thick and soft and makes an excellent cushion, especially for young toddlers who are learning to walk and tend to fall a lot. Playground flooring can come in many styles and colors and will brighten a room as well as protect your current floor from spills and damage from furniture.
Step 1 - Measure the Area of Your Room
Start by taking your tape measure and measuring the length and width of your entire nursery. If you only intend to put rubber playground flooring on a portion of the room, then just carefully measure out that portion. When you purchase your playground flooring make sure it is as close to the size of the space you want to cover as possible to minimize any trimming you will have to do. Also bear in mind when drawing up your floor plan that your playground flooring will come in separate and interchangeable tiles that make it possible to deviate from a strictly square floor plan. You can lay the flooring in different shapes to accommodate the exact space you want to be covered.
Step 2 - Purchase Your Playground Flooring
Depending on where you shop you should have several choices in the type of playground flooring you get. Your flooring will come in the form of rubber tiles. For covering a large area it will be easier to purchase flooring with bigger tiles. It will work best to buy rubber tiles that interlock so that the flooring will stay more solidly in place when played upon.
Step 3 - Laying Your Playground Flooring
Once you have your appropriately sized flooring purchased it will simply lay on top of your normal flooring. You can then place furniture upon it if you like. If you are laying this playground flooring wall to wall, you can make a tight fit by buying your flooring a little larger than your floor space and cutting the excess off with a utility knife. For floors that do not run wall to wall and are not held in place by furniture you can purchase rubber strips that are sticky on both sides and use these to keep the rubber mat in place along the edges.
Step 4 - Care and Maintenance
Rubber playground flooring is extremely strong and durable and it will not be likely that it will be damaged through normal play. You will, however, need to clean it from time to time as children may drag dirt in onto it and there are always those milk and juice spills. You can use a simple solution of mild soap and water and just about anything will easily come clean on these rubber mats.
