Rubber paver blocks are primarily made from recycled tire rubber. Millions of tires in the US are thrown away each year. So, you can take comfort in knowing that by using this type of paver, you are reducing your carbon footprint. These pavers are highly durable, slip-resistant, and easy to install. This is why they are normally used in settings where safety is an issue, such as children’s playgrounds, nursing homes, and shopping centers.
Homeowners can also benefit from their purchase due to their low cost and the minimal amount of maintenance required. Rubber pavers are easy to clean and do not absorb bacteria, making them a hygienic choice as well.
Tips for Easy Installation
Paver blocks must not be allowed to get wet before they are installed. Rubber pavers are porous and absorb water, which can cause them to expand. They also have a tendency to absorb builder’s dust and other harmful materials such as paint. Therefore, they should be covered with some type of protective material if there is any construction work going on nearby. This will aid in preserving their original look and preventing the need for excessive maintenance.
Lastly, rubber pavers should not be allowed to absorb much sunlight before or immediately after installation or you will run the risk of abnormal looking gaps forming due to thermal expansion.
Step 1 - Estimate What is Needed
First, you will need to figure out how many blocks per square foot will be needed to complete the project at hand. This will vary depending on the size and shape of the pavers used, so careful measurement is crucial. You want to make sure the amount of pavers ordered does not exceed the amount needed to pave the area by more than 5%.
Step 2 - Choose a Quality Base Material
A good sub-base is necessary in order to yield the best results when installing rubber pavers. After the site has been thoroughly excavated, add a layer of crushed stone aggregate as your base material ensuring your base is permeable, which will allow moisture to escape through the joints and evaporate.
Step 3 - Use Adhesive
Due to the nature of rubber pavers, they generally require some sort of adhesive to secure them properly. This is because the temperature fluctuations and other natural forces can result in unwanted movement. The adhesive must be applied to a dry surface in order to be effective. Once applied, the pavers must also remain dry until the adhesive has cured. The time to cure will depend on the weather (rubber pavers tend to dry quicker in warmer conditions).
Step 4 - Maintain
General maintenance of rubber pavers once installed can be as simple as mopping with warm water—soap is not necessary. However, it is recommended that outdoor rubber paved areas are cleaned using a high pressure hose every couple of months in order to ensure the build up of dirt and grime between the seams is removed thoroughly. This will keep your rubber paver blocks looking fresh and new for years to come.
It is time to kick back and enjoy your beautiful new landscape!
