If you are planning to work on your own scooter engine parts and have never done it before then you may need a little guidance when it comes to some of the parts individually. Here are a few steps and guidelines that can help you get through the installation of both the electric starter and well as the fuel pump.

Step 1 - Electric Starter Installation

For an electric starter it can be a little complicated to do the installation. You will want to make sure that you are purchasing everything that you need for the job before actually beginning. You may also need to know the size of the scooter to purchase the best starter for that engine. You will need to change the flywheel gear as it most likely will not be compatible with the starter. Then you have to make sure that it is secure in the start bracket which should be mounted on already and if it is not you can use a drill to do this and that the wires are hooked up to the starter switch.

Step 2 - Fuel Pump Installation

The fuel pump on the scooter is going to be put below where the actual gas tank is. When purchasing the fuel pump you want to make sure ahead of time that the fuel line is not too small and that it is long enough to reach and do its job. Typically you can use a vacuum to hook up the fuel pump onto the scooter and you will want to keep open the lines for the gas to go in and out. Make sure that you aren't obstructing anything as you install it as that may cause problems when it is running. Once it is hooked up you will need to heat up the fuel line with a lighter and then slide the connection on. Then let it cool down and it will stay put without falling out and getting in the way.

Before beginning this project you may want to measure your scooter and decide what type of engine you have before you purchase either the electric starter or the fuel pump as these two factors will come into play when it comes to choosing the best starter and pump for you. You can typically ask someone at the auto or hardware store for some guidance. Make sure to clean off all of the parts and the scooter to ensure that nothing is out of place or stuck or too greasy to work before you actually test it out. Keep in mind that when you are putting the scooter together you will want to take things slowly as well as test everything out properly before actually taking it for a ride, especially in traffic. If you find that something is not working how it should, get off of it right away and take it apart and put back together and test again. Also, always wear safety gloves and goggles when you work.
