Kevlar vs Ceramic Brake Pads

Both Kevlar and ceramic brake pads have advantages, but which type is right for your vehicle? The type of brake pads you need really depends on your individual situation. By weighing the performance, wear, cost and noise, you can determine which type of brake pad is right for you.

Performance

Kevlar brake pads are created from organic materials making a softer brake pad which is better suited for small cars with fewer hard stops. For heavier vehicles or aggressive driving, ceramic pads dispense heat far better providing a quicker recovery after stopping.

Wear

Kevlar brake pads wear faster causing more dust when compared to Ceramic pads, however this dust is not harmful to the environment. Ceramic pads, while they are firmer and last longer, create brake dust which is environmentally harmful.

Noise

Kevlar pads do contain some metallic fibers that cause minimal noise. Ceramic brake pads, on the other hand, produce a noise frequency which is not audible to humans.

Cost

Kevlar brake pads are significantly cheaper, though they wear much faster. In comparison, ceramic brake pads have a much longer lifespan (some contain lifetime warranties) but cost about twice as much.
