Learn How to Sew: Sewing Canvas
Canvas is a multi-purpose material that is commonly used in many household and clothing accessories, and despite its intimidating composition, it is fairly easy to sew into your own DIY projects. With the right equipment, any canvas-oriented project involving sewing can be accomplished swiftly.
Step 1 - Launder Your Canvas
Considering the various uses for canvas (especially for use out of doors), it is advisable to cleanse the canvas, multiple times with a shot of water as possible.
Step 2 - Prepare Your Sewing Machine
Install your larger needle into your sewing machine and wind your thread into the bobbin. To ensure that you do not cause harm to the material, your machine will need to be set to a longer stitch setting than average. Usually an 8 inch to 12 inch stitch length does the trick.
Step 3 - Sew with Care
While sewing the canvas with your sewing machine, be sure not to jerk the material through the machine. It is important to have a uniform and unhurried hand unless you would like to damage the canvas or the machine.
Step 4 - Layer if Necessary
It is not uncommon to sew multiple pieces of canvas together to increase its thickness and longevity
