It’s Mother’s Day and time to decide what to get the mom who not only has everything… but does everything.

The DIHerself mom is a special breed of DIYer because she makes it look easy. A bit of skilled ingenuity combined with a never-ending “to do” list, she deserves some really cool gifts to make her tasks easier.

Here are several practical, innovative, and useful DIY gifts to help her get the job done right. And the sooner she gets done, the sooner she’ll be ready for a day at the spa or a night on the town.

Tools Just for Her

No doubt, she has a well-stocked tool kit. But she can always use an extra wrench or set of pliers. Choosing the right tools used to be a challenge. That’s because women had to use tools made for men. But today, there are tools ergonomically designed for a woman’s hands which feature smaller grips, are light weight, and are easy to handle. Some have comfort grip handles which are made for virtually every type of project and designed for a woman’s hands. There are a variety of tools from which to choose: hammers, pliers, wrenches, precision screwdrivers - and each can be found online or at a local DIY store.

Gift wrapping tools can be a challenge. A nice idea would be to bundle the tools as a “bouquet.” Or, maybe it's time to get her a new tool bag?

Tool Bags and Tool Belts

Tool bags and tool belts no longer come in just “boring beige.” They are available in many styles, colors, and materials. From nylon to leather and suede, choose a fun hot pink belt or a something in a fire engine red, deep purple, or a soft sage green. And, since it's Mother’s Day, why not add a little "bling” to the bag with a fun rhinestone stud or two.

Pretty and Powerful in Pink

“Pretty” doesn’t come to mind when one thinks of power tools, but today the two go hand in hand. Lightweight drills not only do the trick, but are perfect for just about any household project. Plus, many have lithium-ion batteries which allow them to recharge in under an hour. Or, select a cordless power screwdriver. There are several on the market that weigh 2/3 less than those made for men. In redesigning the tool, LED lights have been installed so a user can see the holes clearly and get the job done faster.

A Gift Basket

Everyone loves a gift basket filled with an assortment of presents. Here’s a fun idea for the DIHer who loves to work in the garden. Create a garden bucket with all of the essentials: an assortment of seed packets of her favorite flowers, a new pocketed apron, work gloves, a trowel, knee pads, and ergonomically-designed pruning tools. For clean up, toss in several bars of scented soaps. Look for ones which are made with all natural ingredients and made specifically for gardeners that will eliminate the dirt that gets underneath your nails. And lastly, toss in a box of chocolates for her to enjoy at the end of the day.
