If you have decided to do some outdoor remodeling and a plastic deck is on your list, read these simple instructions. Although building a deck might seem a major endeavor, it doesn’t have to be. This project can be done in a day, for an average size deck.
Step 1 - Pick a Design
The first thing you will need to do is to choose a deck design that works for you and the space that you have. Use your tape measure to take precise measurements of the area.
Step 2 - Gather Materials
Purchase your deck material. For a plastic deck you can choose from two types. Type "One" is all plastic, which is simply plastic with additives to protect from the sun. Type "Two" is called composite, which is a mixture of plastic with sawdust or other natural materials. Type "Two" appears more like wood, but can suffer from more damage than type "One."
Step 3 - Cut
Using measured decking plank, use a saw to cut a hole in plank for the downspout.
Step 4 - Attach Boards
The first board should be installed closest to the home using a putty knife to secure it under the metal flashing. Use screws to attach board to each joist.
Step 5 - Screw Into Place
Put each fastener into place on each joist at the edge of the deck plank board. Lay the 2x4 board next to the first plank and use hammer to tap fasteners into place. Screw fasteners into each joist.
Step 6 - Attach Boards Again
Continue with the process, attaching all boards across the length of the deck. Leave space between boards according to the manufacturers directions.
Step 7 - Attach Last Board
For the last board you will need to measure around the deck posts and use your saw to cut planks accordingly. Instead of sliding the last plank in, you will need to drop it in and then fasten it.
