Plush Carpet Maintenance

Plush carpet is a type of carpet where the pile is cut in a way that gives the carpet a very soft and luxurious feel. Plush carpets are sought after for their looks and comfortable feel. They are ideal for giving the floor a comfortable, cushy feel. There are a few steps you can take to maintain the look of your plush carpet, and make it last for many years.

Clean Regularly

Regular vacuuming is vital to maintaining the look and feel of plush carpeting. Dirt and grime left behind will wear down the fabric and discolor it. Plush carpets are not ideal for use in high traffic areas, but with regular care and cleaning, you can still keep them looking good. Vacuum your plush carpet at least twice a week, and more often if you have it in a high traffic area.

When vacuuming, concentrate on one area at a time, and move to the next part when it is clean. Because of the plush structure of this carpet, you must move the vacuum cleaner slowly and thoroughly to remove all the lodged dirt and other particles.

Take Care of Spills Immediately

If you have a wet spill, use paper towels to blot the moisture immediately. Avoid blotting outwards and spreading the stain. If needed, use a recommended cleaner to get rid of any stains. Clean thoroughly and remove all remnants of the cleaner with cold water. Never rub the carpet.

Keep Sharp Objects and High Heeled Shoes Away

Toys, high heeled shoes and other sharp objects can cause loose ends on the surface of the carpet. It is therefore important to keep outdoor footwear and sharp objects away from the carpet. If you see any loose ends on the carpet, never pull them, as it could cause the loop to unravel. You can carefully snip off any loose ends to avoid the threads being pulled out.

Avoid Keeping Heavy Objects Stationary

It is a good idea to move heavy items and furniture around. If left stationary for long periods of time, the weight of these objects tends to crush the cut piles of fabric, making them look flat and unappealing. If the heavy objects on the carpet are moved around from time to time, the carpet will have a more even look overall.

Use Doormats

As far as possible, avoid using outdoor shoes on plush carpet. The dirt and grime on the underside is easily ground into the carpet fiber, making it more difficult to clean. You must also use doormats near every entry point to the home. Most of the mud and dirt will be collected by the doormat, and you can avoid tracking on much of it to your carpet.

Protect from Sunlight

Constant exposure to sunlight causes the carpet color to fade over time. To avoid this, lose your curtains during the brightest part of the day.

Use Recommended Cleaning Products

Avoid using ordinary soap or detergent on your plush carpet. Only use cleaners recommended by the manufacturer. Before use, test the cleaner on a small inconspicuous area.
