Pool Filter Cartridge Cleaning

What You'll Need
A water hose
Muriatic acid
A drying area

Regular pool filter cartridge cleaning is necessary in order to keep your pool clean and pleasant to use. Cleaning a filter cartridge is not difficult or time-consuming.

Step 1 - Remove and Rinse

Turn off any pump supply on the pool and remove the filter cartridge. Rinse it with a high-powered water hose which will get rid of any dirt and debris that may affect performance. Leave the filter cartridge in a warm area so it will dry quickly.

Step 2 - Soak

Shake the filters violently to remove any loose particles and remaining debris. Pour a small amount of chlorinizer into a large bucket of water. Safely place the filter cartridge or cartridges into the bucket and allow to soak for anywhere between 2 and 4 days.

Step 3 - Rinse Again

Remove the filter cartridge from the solution and rinse it thoroughly in another bucket of clean water. The color of the water should change slightly because of the chemicals which have now soaked in. Allow to dry.

Step 4 - Place in Acid

Pour a small amount of muriatic acid into a full bucket of water and place the filter or filters in for a few seconds. Leave them until the solution stops bubbling. Take the filters out. Rinse and dry them and they will be ready to be used again.
