Removing plastic plumbing fittings can be done with a few simple tools and a basic knowledge of plumbing-related DIY. Plastic plumbing fittings are attached using a glue. To remove these, apply heat to the area is the most effective and easiest method. The required tools are very easy to find as well.
Step 1 - Use the Hair Dryer to Heat the Glue
Using the hair dryer on the hottest setting available, apply heat to the plastic fitting. Hold the hair dryer about 4 inches away from the fitting and gently guide it around the extent of the fitting. About 10 minutes of heating the fitting should be enough to make it easier to remove.
Step 2 - Pull Away the Fitting
Hold the pipe using a pair of slip-joint pliers. Using the second pair of pliers, you should be able to twist the fitting. Once you have been able to at least slightly turn or dislodge the fitting, apply more heat for an additional five minutes to the area. The next time you take the fitting, it should be easy to pull off. Do not apply excessive force as you may cause unnecessary damage.
