Repair Chipped Corners of Your Home Office Shelving

Office shelving is practical and should be sturdy enough to support your books and work materials. The shelves may be prone to chips and cracks. A mix of epoxy and sawdust can be used to repair chips and cracks on office shelving, but when the chip is on the corner the filler needs a supporting material until it dries.

You Will Need:

  • Epoxy
  • Sawdust
  • Putty knife or artist’s palette knife
  • Plastic recipient
  • Masking tape
  • Sandpaper

Step 1 – Prepare the Shelf

Clean the shelf and sand the chipped corners that need repair.

Step 2 – Apply Masking Tape

Apply thin strips of masking tape to form a tape corner for the shelf. This is needed as a support for the epoxy solution.

Step 3 – Apply Epoxy

Epoxy can be used alone, but it is more durable if it is mixed with sawdust in a plastic recipient. Buy clear epoxy or colored epoxy to match your shelf. Apply the epoxy solution using a putty knife or an artist’s palette knife. Fill the chipped corner. Hold the masking tape in place until the epoxy is completely hardened.

Step 4 – Sand the Corner

Use a fine grit sandpaper to make the epoxy corners softer.
