There are times throughout the operation of your hot tub when you need to replace the hot tub filter. It is generally recommended that the hot tub filter be changed at least once annually. Because there are many different types of hot tubs, the location of your hot tub filter can be different. The best advice for changing your hot tub filter is to become familiar with its location. Locate the filter for your hot tub model in the owner’s manual and make a note of it for future reference.

Changing the hot tub filter once you locate it should be an easy process requiring about 4 steps. Always keep a spare filter on hand. There are a few tell-tale signs that a new filter is needed. If the center of the filter, which is the filter’s element, feels loose, it needs to be changed. If it has been more than a year since the filter has been changed, it needs to be changed. If the filter is discolored, ripped or damaged in any way, it needs to be changed. If you use a general rule of thumb that the filter should be replaced every year, you should not have any problems.

Step 1: Locate the Hot Tub Filter

Turn the hot tub off and make sure that it is drained of water before beginning the replacement. The best source of information concerning the location of the filter can be found in the owner’s manual. In most hot tubs, the filter is partially visible. There will be a cradle or bucket that houses the filter that can be easily manipulated with a screwdriver.

If you cannot find the filter or owner’s manual, go to the manufacturer’s website. This should give you information concerning your hot tub and the location of the spa’s filter.

Step 2: Remove the Hot Tub Filter

Now that you have located the filter, remove it from its housing component to complete the replacement. The hot tub filter may require nothing more than a counter-clockwise twist to free it from the housing and remove it. Inspect the condition of the filter in comparison with the replacement one and toss it in the trash.

Step 3: Install the Replacement Hot Tub Filter

Place the replacement hot tub filter into the housing area where the former filter was removed. Do in reverse the process used to remove the old filter. Secure the new hot tub filter in the housing unit and cover.

Step 4: Turn the Hot Tub On

Replace the water that was removed from the hot tub and power the spa up. Allow the water to cycle through the system for a few hours in order for the system to acclimate. Now the spa should be good for use and remember the process for when you replace the filter again in 12 months.
