Stainless Steel Backsplash: Pros and Cons

Installing a stainless steel backsplash has become a very popular trend in the housing market today. Here are some of the pros and cons associated with this popular backsplash material.

  • Looks--Installing a stainless steel backsplash provides you with a beautiful focal point for your kitchen area. It looks very contemporary and it is a very coveted look. If you plan on selling your home in the future, potential buyers will be drawn to this.
  • Easily cleaned--When something gets on the stainless steel backsplash, you should be able to clean it relatively easily. You can use a number of different multipurpose cleaners on the material without harming it. There is also no texture to worry about like there are with many other types of tile.

  • Cold--Some people feel like stainless steel represents a cold and sterile look. Therefore, certain people will not care for it and prefer a more inviting surface such as travertine or tumbled marble. It is a very specific taste that is designed for those who love the ultra-chic look.
  • Expensive--Stainless steel backsplashes are fairly expensive compared to other types of materials that you could use. If you are on a tight budget, stainless steel is not the most economical route to take.
