When replacing windows in a home, many homeowners are unsure whether they have standard window sizes. This is a common misconception as there is no standard window sizes in the industry.

Windows can vary in size from the smallest bathroom window to the largest picture windows available today. Every manufacturer produces what they consider to be standard window sizes, but each manufacturer’s dimensions are slightly different. There is no unspoken standard window size that is adhered too.

Many double and single hung windows in today’s homes fall in the range of 24 to 30 inches wide by 48 to 56 inches high. However, picture windows, sliding windows, and bay and bow windows are commonly available in much larger sizes. Basement windows, on the other hand, are produced with standard window sizes ranging from 18 to 24 inches wide by 12 to 18 inches high.
It is important to remember that when replacing windows, the existing ones in your home will be the only standard window size to be concerned with.
