Lowe’s Acquires Home Improvement Chain Orchard Supply

US home-improvement retail store Lowe’s has finalized the purchase of Orchard Supply Hardware Store for $205 million. As part of the deal, Orchard will file bankruptcy to facilitate an agreement that will give Lowe’s at least sixty of its ninety-one California based stores.

The acquisition by Lowe’s will allow the retail store to expand its new format and reach a new customer base in California with Orchard’s smaller metro store locations. Lowe’s will operate Orchard as a standalone business separate from Lowe’s and keep the current Orchard management team.

"Orchard's neighborhood stores are a natural complement to Lowe's strengths in big-box retail, offering smaller-format hardware and garden stores catering to the needs of local customers. Strategically, the acquisition will provide us with immediate access to Orchard's high density, prime locations in attractive markets in California,'' said Robert Niblock, Chairman, President and CEO of Lowe's.

Ace Hardware Ranks Highest in Customer Satisfaction

J.D. Power has released a report showing the ranking of customer satisfaction with home improvement retailers. A key trend in the study showed retailers that provide a readily available staff to address costumer needs ranked highest. Scoring is based on the performance in five areas: staff and service, store facilities, merchandise, price, and sales and promotions.

For the seventh consecutive year, Ace Hardware ranked number one on customer satisfaction by achieving a score of 803 out of 1,000 - pointing to staff and service as the key factors. Menards ranked second with a score of 770 due to its price, sales and promotions.
