Redbeacon Launches Service Directory to Provide Consumers with Ultimate Home Improvement Information Resource
Home improvement just got a whole lot easier—and a lot more mobile. Redbeacon, a subsidiary of The Home Depot, has launched its Redbeacon Service Directory. The directory comes in the form of a mobile app, and will allow home owners to research projects through more than 150 service guides, ranging from plumbing to roof repair. Anthony Rodio, CEO of Redbeacon, believes this app will become the go-to source for home improvement. “By carefully curating our Service Directory, we’re providing the ultimate reference guide for consumers in order to help enhance their home improvement experience.”
The app will also give home owners the opportunity to submit requests for home service professionals. By answering a series of simple questions, Redbeacon will match you up with four pre-screened local professionals based on the job request.
The Home Depot to Hold More Than 700 Hurricane Workshops in Stores From Texas to Maine
Last week The Home Depot announced its plans to hold over 700 hurricane workshops in stores in hurricane prone areas from the Gulf Coast to New England. The workshops will focus on preparation projects such as generator safety and assembling disaster preparedness kits.
"Just as The Home Depot pre-plans and prepares for disasters of all types, we want to help our customers ready their homes and businesses for hurricanes," said Marvin Ellison, executive vice president—U.S. Stores. "We play a critical role in the disaster response infrastructure before and after storms, and we have expanded that focus to more stores and facilities in our Northern Division."
Hurricane Preparedness Workshops are free and will be held on Saturday, July 27 from 10 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. local time. Participating stores and registration information is located at workshops.homedepot.com. Lastly, The Home Depot will be increasing its supply chain readiness in northern facilities, including a new rail-connected distribution depot serving Long Island, Queens and Brooklyn.
Friend Trusted Home Improvement App Bests Competition at Silicon Valley Startup Event
Friend Trusted Inc., an innovative company that helps home owners connect with home improvement professionals, has announced that its app took the top prize at a recent startup competition, held on May 18 in San Jose, Calif. The event was facilitated by the Silicon Valley Entrepreneurs and Startups group. Each company at the competition had five minutes to pitch their product followed by five minutes of Q&A.
Darwin Widjaja and Brenton Marrelli, the founders of Friend Trusted, discussed their process and reception at the competition. "The judges and crowd alike were truly impressed with our presentation that communicated the massive opportunity that is the home improvement market and our unique business model that solves multiple pain points in the market," Darwin said.

Lowe’s Holds Annual Meeting of Shareholders
Lowe’s has released information regarding its annual shareholding meeting. President and CEO, Robert A. Niblock told shareholders “I think of 2012 as the year we balanced running the business while we changed the business. With the investments we’re making, the initiatives we’re completing and the improvements we’re seeing in the housing market, we expect the momentum we gained in 2012 to accelerate in 2013.”
During the meeting, shareholders re-elected board members Raul Alvarez, David W. Bernauer, Leonard L. Berry, Peter C. Browning, Richard W. Dreiling, Dawn E. Hudson, Robert L. Johnson, Marshall O. Larsen, Richard K. Lochridge, Robert A. Niblock and Eric C. Wiseman to one-year terms.
