Most of us spend a good portion of our time in the bathroom, so it should look presentable. You can spruce up the space with new bathroom countertops. If you thought your bathroom countertops had to be simple white or blue tile from the 1970s, forget it. Times have changed, and so have tile options. In fact, there are so many colors, patterns, and styles that you can be as creative as you like.

Here are 9 ideas to get you started on your new bathroom countertops. Whether you do the work yourself or hire a professional, be sure you have the correct supplies, the appropriate measurements, and a well-planned budget.

Be Bold

If you have dull countertops that consist of white, beige, or pale blue ceramic tile, go bold. Replace them with bold colors, such as navy blue or black. Both offer a rich, luxurious appearance.

Patterns

Instead of choosing a solid tile color, opt for a tile with a pattern like flowers, paisleys, or embedded shapes. Tiles with a pattern evoke a sense of warmth and create a modern ambiance.

Textured

Textured tiles have made their way on the scene. They can be unique and engaging. For example, there are tiles with rough surfaces, faux finishes, brick, and more. Think outside of the box for a truly unique countertop for your bathroom. Be fun and go the opposite of the norm with a textured tile surface.

Mexican

Mexican tiles are bright, vibrant, and beautiful. They can be used on countertops or as backsplashes for extra pizazz.

Stone

Travertine, onyx, limestone, and slate countertops can create a contemporary, trendy bathroom that is easy to care for and lovely to look at. Stone is considered to be long-lasting, but it can become slippery when wet.

Porcelain

Replace old tiles with new porcelain tiles in your favorite color. Porcelain tiles are similar to ceramic, but they are denser and wear better. Porcelain is easy to maintain and doesn’t stain as much as ceramic tiles.

Mosaic

Be colorful; opt for gorgeous mosaic tiles which are made from stone, porcelain, or colored glass. They are usually small in size and are used to create an old-world look. Even if you don’t want to do the entire countertop in mosaics, a small area with a pattern can look terrific.

Concrete

Concrete is an excellent choice for bathroom counters due to its durability, low cost, and low maintenance. Concrete can be found in many different colors and textures.

Grout

Consider using a different color grout between your new tiles. Grout is what is usually white; however, there are some exciting new grout colors on the market, such as navy and mauve.
