If you have brick siding, you may feel that you are stuck with the look of it forever. Actually, you can paint the brick to give your home a fresh new look and new curb appeal. Before taking on this project, here are some tips that will help make your project a success.
1. Clean The Brick
Cleaning the brick prior to painting will assure that your paint will stick to the brick. Using a pressure washer is the easiest way to clean the brick. Use chlorine bleach for any black spots which may indicate mold. Be sure to protect any surrounding plants by covering them.
2. Repair Damaged Areas
This is a great time to mask any damaged areas. Pick up some filler at your local hardware store. Fill in any cracks or chipped bricks. Painting over these areas after repairing the bricks will camoflouge the repaired areas.
3. Use Primer
Before you paint, cover the brick with a latex primer. This will seal the porous bricks and give the paint a smooth surface to adhere to. The primer will also help the paint to last longer.
