Tips for Polishing Granite Bathroom Countertops

Granite bathroom countertops add a touch of elegance and beauty to your bathroom. These expensive countertops need special care when cleaning and polishing to keep them looking their best.

You Will Need

  • Spray bottle
  • Water
  • Alcohol
  • Dishwashing liquid
  • Dry cloth
  • Sponge

Step 1-Clean the Countertop

Never polish a countertop that hasn't been washed thoroughly. You don't want to rub grit into the granite surface and scratch it or seal it. Wet the sponge and put a drop or two of dishwashing liquid on it to make a soapy foam. Wash the countertop with this and then dry it with a dry cloth such as a terry cloth dish towel.

Step 2-Polishing the Countertop

To create your own polish for your granite countertop, mix 1/4 cup of water with 1/4 cup of alcohol and put in a drop of dishwashing liquid. Spray this onto the granite countertop and immediately buff dry with a dry towel.

Step 3- A Word of Caution

Never use anything that is gritty, such as scouring powder, on a granite countertop. Also any product containing an acid base, such as vinegar or citrus, should never be used on granite as it can pit and dull the surface and damage the countertops so badly you may need to have them replaced or refinished.
