Troubleshooting Your Impact Wrench

Like most types of tools, your impact wrench is bound to malfunction every now and then. Since it is time consuming and stressful to keep on running to the dealer or the manufacturer for help every time your impact wrench malfunctions, it would be best for you to learn now to troubleshoot your impact wrench. To troubleshoot problems on your impact wrench, here is what you should do.

Impact Wrench Runs Slowly or Does Not Work at all

If your impact wrench is running too slowly, there may be grits or gum in your tool. To remove grits and gum, flush the tool with some oil or gum solvent. Gently remove the grits and gum from your tool then lubricate the tool before and after using it.

Another possible reason why your tool may be running slow is that the rotor blade or the ball bearing in the motor is already worn-out. Replace worn-out parts and test the impact wrench. If the impact wrench still does not work or still runs slowly, check the air pressure gauge.

Without enough pressure, your tool will not work well so make sure that the air hose has no leaks and it is attached securely to the impact wrench. If you are using multiple air hoses, remove the extra air hoses from your wrench. Multiple air hoses will affect the performance of your wrench so make sure that you only have one air hose on your tool.

Moisture Coming Out from the Tool

If moisture blows out of the tool when you turn it on, there must be water in the air compressor tank. To remove the water from the tank, open the air compressor tank and drain the water out. After draining the water out, put oil on your tool and run for a few minutes or until no more moisture comes out of your tool.

Another possible reason why moisture comes out from your tool is that there must be water in the air lines or hoses attached to your tool. To make sure that water does not get into your air lines or hoses, install a water filter or separator on the hoses. Aside from installing a water filter or separator on your impact wrench, you may also install an air dyer. The air dryer will help reduce the amount of moisture that your impact wrench absorbs during operation.

Impacts Slowly or Will Not Impact

One of the most obvious reasons why your wrench will not impact is that it is not properly lubricated. To make sure that your wrench stays in top condition, lubricate the motor and the impact mechanism before and after use. If you have not used your impact wrench for quite sometime, inspect it thoroughly before you use it. Make sure that the motor and the impact mechanism are not rusty or corroded. Rust and corrosion will prevent your impact wrench from functioning well.

If your impact wrench is well oiled but still it won’t work, check out the tool regulator. Set the regulator tool to the maximum setting and run the impact wrench.
