With Valentine’s Day on the horizon, it’s the perfect time to complete fun crafts with your kiddos. These festive craft ideas are sure to be a hit for the holiday that celebrates love.

Button Heart

Choose from an assortment of buttons in different shapes, sizes, and colors to make the shape of a heart on a piece of canvas. These can either be sewed on or hot glued. You could also do this in other shapes or even in a word, such as the word “love”. Choosing the buttons and creating a beautiful design is the fun of this kid-friendly project.

Fingerprint Trees

An easy and fun craft to do even with little kids is to make fingerprint love tree art that will become a keepsake you’ll pull out year after year on Valentine’s Day. To make this, draw a tree trunk with the outline of a heart around the top of it. If your kid is old enough, let them draw this part themselves. Then, have your child fill the heart with their fingerprints as the leaves. It’s as easy as that!

Lace Votive Candles

Candles are such a soft and romantic element to decorate with around this holiday. Take glass votives and use mod podge to adorn them with a layer of lace using doilies. This is easy for you to do with kiddos, and if you don’t want to fill these votives with candles they can easily be filled with something else, like conversation heart candies.

Yarn Wrapped Hearts

Yarn wrapped hearts are both easy and inexpensive to make and they can be used for a myriad of things. From gift tags to home decor, you’ll find endless ways to use these for the holiday. Plus, they’re so easy to make with your little ones. All you have to do is cut a heart shape out of cardboard.

Then, take a wad of yarn and tape the end of it to the middle of the cardboard cut out. Next, wrap it around the heart in every direction until it’s completely covered. Once you’ve completely covered it and have a nice, chunky heart, tie a knot in the yarn. From there, you have a nice homemade ornament in the spirit of Valentine’s Day.

Homemade Vase

Flowers are frequently gifted for this holiday, so a vase will certainly be put to good use. You’ll need colored pencils and ribbon for this project in addition to a glass jar and hot glue. Pick whatever color of colored pencils you want - but it could be fun to do an ombre pattern of purples and pinks in the spirit of the holiday. Line the outside of the glass jar with these pencils, standing straight up and nestled directly next to each other. Hot glue them onto the jar and then tie a ribbon around the bottom or middle of the pencils. Just like that, you have a festive and pretty vase!

Paper Airplane Cards

Paper airplanes are so fun for kids, and you can make them perfect for the occasion by making them into Valentine’s Day cards. Have your kiddos draw pictures or write out loving messages to loved ones. Then, help them fold the notes and pictures into paper airplanes to throw on over to the recipients when the time comes.

Jar of Love Notes

Love notes aren’t just for couples! Work on love notes with your kids and write down things they love about one another and you on festive paper or cut out hearts. Fold them up and put them in a large jar. Take one out each day to read to one another as a fun surprise. This is a great activity to do with kids that are learning to read and write as it reinforces the skill in a fun way.

Heart Suncatchers

Although in many parts of the country Valentine’s Day is a cold time of year, that doesn’t mean the sun doesn’t shine! Use a plastic sheet protector to cut out the shape of a heart. Then, cut different colors of tissue paper into small squares and rectangles.

They don’t all have to be the same size and shape! Then, use mod podge to adhere the tissue paper to the heart shape that you created. After the mod podge has dried, use double sided tape to adhere the suncatcher to a window and use it as a beautiful decoration.

These are just some of the fun crafts to enjoy with your kiddos during this festive time of year.
