What is a Shower Diverter Valve?

A shower diverter valve is something that is used when you want to have more than one shower head in your shower. Multiple shower heads makes it easy to have a stationary one for traditional use and a removable, handheld one for washing the dog, kids, or yourself. A shower diverter valve allows you to divert the water from one shower head to the other as needed.

Where it is Installed

The diverter valve is installed before your shower head. The second shower head or hand held unit is installed to the other side of the diverter.

How it Works

Each shower diverter valve works a little differently, but the concept is the same. There is usually a lever or a button that comes along with the diverter. When you press the lever to the right, you allow the water to flow through the overhead shower (as an example) and if you press the lever to the left, the water will flow into the handheld shower.

How to Install

Installation is relatively simple. You need to remove the shower head and install the diverter valve. Then you just reattach the shower head on one side and thread the end for the handheld shower on the other side.
