Timber is very susceptible to woodworm, but furniture that is made from a combination of woods or a blend with another material such as glass, cedar or mahogany is more resistant. To prevent infestation, you can add various linings or preform treatments, like painting the wood. Dry areas and pre-treated wood may be more resistant to woodworm. Timber and other furniture wood often gets pre-treated against insects and larvae, so inquire about this when purchasing furniture or a new home. The best method is to prevent larvae infestation, but remember to check the floors and wooden structures when buying an old house as it may already be inhabited by the woodworm before you move in.
