What Not to Do When Cutting Baseboard Molding

Baseboard molding is typically placed at the bottom of your wall to finish a room. It can be made from wood, plastic or rubber and is easy to install. There are a few things to be aware of when working with baseboards to ensure that it is installed properly and correctly.

Measure the Wall, Not the Molding

When placing baseboard molding in place measure the wall space between the two pieces of baseboard and mark the additional piece of baseboard. Do not to measure 1 piece of cut baseboard and try to match to another piece of baseboard. This will result in the subsequent pieces of baseboard being too short and unusable.

Check Miter Cuts

When making cuts to the baseboard using a miter saw, be sure to check the angles properly and line the baseboard up correctly. An improper angle will result in the baseboard pieces not connecting together correctly and you having to throw the piece out and repeating the process. Avoid wasting material by re-measuring and double checking all cuts first.
